Phoned Don at Jabiru re return spring on throttle and thread problem on oil cooler.
The return spring on the throttle is a failsafe in case the throttle linkage from the cabin fails. The spring would then open the throttle, thus providing full power in preference to idle to get you home. Power could be reduced to some extent by grounding one magneto.
To prevent this happening in normal flight, the throttle lever mount blocks need to be adjusted to quite firm friction.
The thread on the brass fittings to the Long brand Coolrite 26 plate oil cooler is a tapered 1/2 inch NPT (National Pipe Thread) fitting.
Don said that as such it does not screw far into the alloy female fitting on the element, and will only screw in 3-4 threads. This is fine as long as some Loctite 577 or similar is used. Teflon tape should not be used as it may break off and clog the filter.
